Come swing by labs.acrobat.com to see our newest offering, a really cool Flash-based tool for building presentations. That's what I've been working on for the last six months. (Well, I have been working on some of the invisible underpinnings. The part you'll see is by other people.)

We just (as in 2 minutes ago) released the latest version of Adobe Buzzword. And so now I can talk about the feature I've been working on for the last two months:

Buzzword now offers spell-checking in 19 different languages (well, not quite 19 languages, because that's counting national variants such as US vs UK English, and temporal variants such as pre-1996 and post-1996 German, as separate entries). And I personally wrote all 19 dictionaries. Well, no, of course not, but I did quite a bit of work against a short schedule to implement an efficient spell-checking library in Flash for us to use.

I'm proud of the work that I did, and I'm really excited to have been able to contribute a feature that will make lots of users happy -- and to do so in such a short time after starting at Adobe.

This morning at the weekly team meeting I gave a demo of the work that I've done in the last week. It went very well; I was able to show the basic functionality of the feature that I was assigned to add, and people seemed quite pleased. There's still a bit more work to productize it, but it's nice to hit the ground running.

This afternoon we had a spec review, and afterwards the person whose spec we were reviewing expressed that he was pleased with my contributions to the discussion. I proposed a few ideas for resolving some problems that came up, and I suggested a few failure cases that hadn't been considered.

So I really feel like I'm contributing already, which is a wonderful feeling considering that it's only my seventh day on the job.

And I got to have a picnic lunch with H and Alissa today.

We're growing the team some more. Any of these jobs appeal to you or someone you know? Send me a CV and I'll forward it on to HR.

  • Applications Specialist
  • Network Administrator
  • PostScript/PDF Senior Software Engineer
  • Product Marketing Manager
  • Sales Representative
  • Senior Software Engineer
  • Senior Web Software Engineer
  • Senior Training Specialist

Two other things that aren't on that list: A documentation (tech writer) position will be opening up as soon as they finish writing the job description, and we're interested in working with a Flash consultant.

Also, jik got me to sign up with LinkedIn, so if you're also on there and want to establish a link relationship, let me know.
