After season three, I was left with a sour taste and wasn't planning to watch season four. But I'm glad I did. Sure, some of the challenges were absurd, and the production was manipulative, but I loved the way the final five, and especially the final three, were mutually supportive. Jillian has her crisis of confidence, and Rami is supportive and helpful instead of trying to psych her out. "Focus on the positive" is much better sportsmanship than "Well, it's your own fault" would have been. These were professionals not only in terms of the amazing work they produced, but in their demeanor. (Yes, Christian can get annoying, but he's young, he'll get over it, and even he was usually supportive of and helpful to the other designers in the workroom.)

And now I have my Wednesday nights back!

I disliked much of S4 for the contrived challenges, but the final 5 really grew on me by the end. I thought the final collections were fantastic -- as a group, better than any since S1. (Arguably, even better than S1, since Jay's and Kara Saun's fabulousness was dragged down a bit by Wendy's not-so-hot final effort.) And I'm with you, it was really nice to see the genuine camaraderie that developed during the season. Tres fierce!

What, you don't watch Top Chef?

It really was a solid season. Though I really thought Christian's collection was the least interesting of the final three, and that Jillian's was the best; I was kind of sorry to see the judges go the other way.

I have managed to not start watching Top Chef. I'm afraid of getting dragged in to another time sink....

Watching fashion on TV I can form an opinion of whether a particular dress "works" or not. I'm skeptical that that would translate to taste. Have they overcome that limitation?
