Language advice?
Aug. 1st, 2006 03:41 pmOk, geeky friends....
I want to freshen up some of the web-based tools that I use on my home machine and commercial web server, both of which are Linux based. Historically, I've used perl, but the last few years I've been doing a lot of C# development at work and I have to admit --- it's a great language and I find the idea of going back to perl unappetizing.
Underlying technologies that I want to use are MySQL, XML/XSLT, and Apache.
So I'm consdering my options. I've toyed with mono but I'm not convinced that it's got enough of the class libraries that I've gotten used to with the C# CRL. (In particular, I'm worried about the XML, XSLT, and OLE/ODBC stuff.) I've wanted to learn Python for years but never taken the time. I know almost nothing about PHP. Java has gotten frustrating because it's not C#.
Thoughts? Suggestions?
