Jun. 4th, 2007 03:45 pmLast night's Zamir concert: I didn't care much for the repertoire, but we executed very well and the audience enjoyed it. (First time I've ever seen a standing ovation start halfway through the last piece on the program!) Sanders Theatre is such a wonderful venue with singer-friendly acoustics.
Zamir's new CD, "Psalmsensation," went on sale for the first time at the concert. Most of the tracks are among our best recordings. The one standout disappointment is the Bleckner Psalm 150, which is embarassingly sloppy --- the live concert recording was much better, but we couldn't use it for union reasons. This is a piece that lives and dies by rhythmic accuracy, and in this recording we just didn't have it. On balance, it's still a great recording, though.
Speaking of rhythmic accuracy, I was completely blown away by the percussion trio in yesterday's From the Top: Live at Carnegie Hall. It will be rebroadcast on WGBH tomorrow (Tues) at 4:30 and I'm sure it will be elsewhere throughout PBS Nation --- Highly recommended.
