Related to another project, [livejournal.com profile] rikchik introduced me to another print-on-demand company. And they are significantly less expensive than the ones I had been looking at before. In particular, it looks like I'll be able to order copies of my siddur for just about $15 a copy (probably a little more once shipping from them to me is included) at a minimum order size of ten. (My previous best was $20 per copy once I reached 100 copies.)

So it looks like the siddur project will be going into production later this summer. I ordered my ISBNs today.

I might order ten at first as proofs. If you are someone I see regularly (so we can keep costs down by eliminating postage) and would be interested in a proof copy in exchange for, well, proofreading, please be in touch.

And if you want to get an email when I'm really ready to take orders, be sure to check out the project homepage and sign up there!

I enjoyed tomorrow's (Friday's) NYT puzzle. It went by very fast and smoothly. And spoiler! ).

I recently took out The Subversive Copy Editor: Advice from Chicago by Carol Saller from the library. I enjoyed it very much --- it's a fairly slim volume that is filled with good advice and humor. As a library book, I recommend it highly; but I wouldn't buy it myself because it's not a book I'd return to again and again.

Saller's book is basically a sane way to do things, based on her experiences working at and answering questions on behalf of the Chicago Manual of Style. It's for both editors and writers, and as someone who has been on both sides of that relationship, I found myself repeatedly muttering "yes!"
