One of the enduring images of my youth is Rabbi Israel Moshowitz, ztz"l, ascending the bimah on Yom Kippur clad in his black robe, dark suit, and white cloth tennies. (Wearing leather shoes is prohibited on Yom Kippur.)

Now, we have Crocs. (Actually, I don't, but I think I'm going to get a pair before next year.) The combination is just as incongruous, only now it's in Technicolor.

(And an obligatory pun: I just took my Sudafed hamafseket.)

I have a pair of Chinese slippers that I use (cloth uppers, plastic sidewalk-worthy soles). They're not very comfortable, but they work. Maybe I should consider Crocs.

On the other hand, while wearing something non-leather that's more comfortable than your regular shul shoes meets the letter of the law, it doesn't meet the spirit. Hmm.

G'mar chatimah tovah.

I've been considering a pair of Crocs since last Y"K (I never got around to getting one, alas). I'm still considering.

I got a pair, and I recommend them. No more pinchy canvas shoes for me.
