OK, so I thought I had the secret message. (Saw the diagonal, missed the initial letters on the clues; ascribed the unusual feel of the clues to the idea that Will would give Merl more leeway stylistically.) Loved the Wordplay music and split-screen effects. Was bugged by the unchecked letters in some of the big-board puzzles, but am wondering how many of the puzzles that we glimpsed were previously published and how many were new grids constructed for the episode. I assume Merl will regale us (so to speak) with the details.

Curious about: why the Hyatt and not the Marriott?

So I settled on my Simpsons userpic instead of my xword one for this post. :-)

The credits at the end said that the crosswords were constructed by Merl Reagle. I assumed that meant the stuff that was flashed for a second or two during the show... maybe puzzles that he either previously published or never got around to finishing. I'm sure there will be a special showing followed by a one-hour presentation about it at ACPT.
