I want this (among other things) but it seems ridiculous to pay $20 for ground shipping from California. Surely someone out there must know where in the Boston area one can buy a 5lb bag of Scharffen Berger unsweetened cocoa powder? (I'll note that Whole Foods has stopped carrying the small tins.)

Possibly Christina's, in Inman Square? They certainly carry good-quality cocoa powder; I don't know if they carry 2kg bags, but one can certainly call and ask. (One imagines that they use a whole lot of cocoa powder in their ice cream, so even if the spice shop doesn't have it on display, they might be able to sell it.)

i think the peet's coffee fairly near you uses SB chocolate of some kind in their drinks. it may be syrup that they use, but it's possible that you could get them to add a box of powder to an order, and end up paying less for shipping than 20 bucks. can't hurt to ask.

TJ's has started carrying their own brand instead of SB. It's nowhere near as good. (The fact that I've noticed the difference convicnced me that it is actually worth paying extra for the SB.)

I did try Peet's to see what SB stuff they had out at retail; it didn't occur to me to ask them to special-order stuff for me. Interesting idea.

Good idea. (Never been there, haven't even been through Inman Square in about ten years, but worth a phone call. There's a Tosci's not far from my office, they might also be worth asking.)
