Four days of vacation
Feb. 21st, 2010 08:15 pmWe drove down to my parents' house on Wednesday night to spend the second half of the kids' school vacation week in NYC. And of course being in NYC means indulging in those sensual pleasures for which opportunity is much more available in NYC than here in Boston.
I mean, of course, eating at nice kosher restaurants.
Thursday evening we went into Times Square to see Present Laughter. We had enough time between picking up the tickets and the 7pm curtain for a snack, so we went down to Mr. Broadway; I had a couple of sushi rolls and H had the "Chez Lanu" appetizer sampler. Yum. After the show (about which more in another post) we decided we really didn't want a heavy meat meal, so we decided to give the so-called "My Most Favorite Food Company" one last chance; we hadn't been there in years. I'm glad we did; I had the salmon with balsamic peppers over quinoa, which was extraordinary. The desserts are still in the category of "very good, but you'd expect a restaurant that can use real butter and cream to do even better at these prices," but the espresso was a perfect cap to the night.
Friday lunch my mom made German Egg Salad, which is one of my favorite dishes, and Friday night's dinner was my traditional birthday meal (a few weeks early) of roast chicken with noodle pudding. Even more satisfying than a nice restaurant meal. :-)
Saturday night H and I went to Sushi Metsuyan. Since I'd already satisfied my yen for sushi, I branched out and we split the veggie tempura and Jamaican Jerk buffalo wings for our appetizers. I followed that up with the Kalbi Metsuyan steak, which was just a few cents shy of the "caramelized bliss" promised in the menu. SM used to be highly variable for us, but the last few times we've been there the food has been consistently excellent. Now if only they'd serve coffee to accompany their "King of Chocolate" dessert!
Today for lunch we took the kids to Chattanooga, at theirrequest begging. We ordered our usual, it was wonderful as usual, what else is there to say? This is still our most favorite food place. We left straight from the restaurant for home, and now here we are.
