[H]e invents a whole new grammatical tense in which to tell his story: First person plural omniscient. The book is narrated by everybody.

It occurred to me yesterday as I was reading a Magic School Bus book for the umpteenth time that there is, in fact, precedent for first-person plural omniscient narrative.

Yeah, I didn't really think about it at the time, but first person plural, at any rate, isn't new. There was something a couple of years ago, a novel about and narrated by some sort of suburban wives' social club. I can't find that title, but Wikipedia lists others.

I believe you're thinking of The Ladies Auxiliary by Tova Mirvis (whose son is one of Alissa's best friends).
