Sing, sing a song....
Apr. 5th, 2006 03:52 pmAfter 14 years with the Zamir Chorale of Boston, I'm looking for a change.
After 14 years of singing in a 50-voice group, I want to sing in a group of six to twelve people (mixed voices).
After 14 years of singing exclusively "Jewish" music, I want to sing a wide variety of repertoire in a wide variety of styles: jazz, barbershop, show tunes, pop songs, glee club/anthems, etc. I'd hope for a nice balance between a capella and accompanied repertoire.
And without trying to sound snarky, I find that often we spend too much time in Zamir rehearsals reviewing stuff that people should be able to sight-read, or should have learned on their own, or that we already learned but people didn't write in their music or review between rehearsals. (That's not the majority of Zamir singers, but it's enough of them that it fuels my frustration.) So I'm hoping to find a group of people whose abilities are a good match for my own so that rehearsals are about polishing and working on the group aspects, not on learning notes and rhythms.
(Two wrinkles are: (a) I observe the Jewish Sabbath so I can't participate in a group that would require rehearing or performing between sunset Friday and darkness Saturday. (b) The one genre that I'd have trouble performing is anything non-Jewishly religious, which is unfortunate in that there is so much glorious church music.)
(My ideal would also include the group working periodically with a vocal coach on the group sound.)
So. I'm looking to network in the Boston area for other like-minded people of comparable skill, either who already have a group and need a low bass, or who would like to form such a group. I become available in June.
