About a month ago, while driving to work, I was inspired and came up with a melody for Lecha Dodi. I pulled over to the side of the road, whipped out a sheet of staff paper, and wrote it down lest I forget it.

Then, of course, we had four weeks of holidays on Friday or Saturday, so we haven't sung Lecha Dodi since then. But I've been busy working on arranging it.

So, in time for this coming Shabbat evening, here is a PDF (300KB) and computer-generated MP3 (5:15, 5MB) of a new melody for Lecha Dodi. I hope you like it. Although the arrangement is for a cappella SATB choir, the basic melody should be usable as a congregational tune. (For those unfamiliar with the poem, Wikipedia's article is reasonable and includes a translation.)

Come, beloved, meet the bride
The Sabbath greet at eventide

Also relevant to this coming Shabbat, I'll remind you of the patter trio I wrote about Noah's Ark, Dad's Boat.

Oh, and [livejournal.com profile] desireearmfeldt, [livejournal.com profile] saxikath, and [livejournal.com profile] cellio, I haven't forgotten any of you --- I have rough drafts for all three songs but they're not ready to share yet.

That's lovely! May I share it with my congregation's choir director?

Just so you know I did remember to check it out. The mp3 file is now on my desktop, awaiting Seth's return home (he's taken the marital brain, as well as a volume of our Shulchan Aruch, printouts of the Tur, Beis Yosef, and Tzitz Eliezer, and Massechet Yevamot, none of which I needed as much as the brain, off to a class with R' Klapper) so he can install a blah blah blah codec on my computer. I have too much of a headache right now to manage to do more than click "cancel." But I *will* listen to it, I will I will. (Your puzzle's still on my desk, unattempted, too. Blah blah bleagh.)
