Another Psalm setting
Jan. 14th, 2008 01:42 pmThis coming Shabbat is Shabbat Shirah, the Sabbath of Song. (It is thus named because the Torah portion assigned for this week contains the Israelites' Song at the Sea, but there's a tradition of having the services be more musical than usual.)
In time for Shabbat Shirah, I am pleased to share a setting of another segment of the Friday night Kabbalat Shabbat service. Havu Ladonai (Psalm 29) is the sixth psalm recited on Friday nights; the congregation stands for its recitation. My setting ([PDF score, 300KB] and [Computer-generated MP3, 3:15, 3MB]) for SSATBB a cappella attempts to be jazzy, joyous, and triumphant. I hope you enjoy it.
