It was truly striking how many people in NYC were wearing Bluetooth earpieces. It was like the Borg, except with blue LEDs instead of red.

"We are earpiece of Bluetooth. Resistance is futile. You will be assimHello? Yes, we're almost there. Another two minutes or so. OK, bye. Sorry, where was I? Oh, yes, assimilated. You will be assimilated."

Or, for those who prefer an older TV allusion: "Ernie, you have a Bluetooth in your ear." "What's that Bert? I can't hear you. I have a Bluetooth in my ear."

The winner must have been the dowdy lady with a sheitel and a really snazzy earpiece.

I've asked before and I'll do it again: why on earth does something that sits in your ear need LEDs? (Oh yeah so the manufacturer can advertise to everyone who looks your way.)

Cf. the Doctor Who episode Rise of the Cybermen, set in an alternate Earth where a media mogul can download information to the entire non-destitute population through their EarPods.

If I see the light on the side of her head while she's screaming on the bus, I know she's only a freaking nuisance and not a crazy person.
