My first day at work

Pretty productive for a first day, I thought. Got my new machine configured, checked out the sources, built the software and ran it under the debugger. Read some internal documentation. Was assigned a pretty neat first project.

Oh, and are you ready for a shock?

YES!!!! I TOTALLY CALLED IT!!

Anyway since nowadays you can also install Windows and run both at native speeds it's no longer a big deal. :) Will you be working mostly in OS X?

Actually, most of my work will be in a Windows VM. But when they asked me which platform I wanted for my laptop I figured this was a great opportunity to learn more about Macs. Especially since they're really BSD boxes now and Unix is my platform of choice.

At my previous job we were an all-Windows department (except for one Mac used by QA for testing). At home I've been building my own computers from parts every few years, and until about a year ago I didn't know you could build what Lifehacker calls a "hackintosh".

OK, that makes much more sense... I couldn't really envision you walking up to a new coworker on your first day and saying, "Hi! I'm AMG! I just started working here. Will you take my picture?" :-)
