Why is it that just about all the Israeli music I have in my collection was written before 1978? Did they stop writing great songs after that?

What songs should I be listening to?

I'm not exactly fully plugged into the currnet music scene, but I have a few suggestions:

Though I haven't heard her latest stuff, I like Achinoam Nini (she goes by "Noa" on her English albums). Her second album ("Achinoam Nini and Gil Dor", with a blue cover) is all Hebrew, and lovely, but doesn't seem to be carried by major outlets -- you might only be able to get it at the Israel Bookshop or some other Judaica place or site. There is some overlap between that album and "Both Sides of the Sea" which you can buy on Amazon. Her first and third are a mix of English and Hebrew. I haven't heard her more recent ones.

Do you have any David Broza? [livejournal.com profile] dodajen and I really like him. (In fact we used "מתחת השמים" as the song for the opening montage on our wedding video).

There is an Israeli you-tube clone called "flix" that has a special Music section. Every now and then I browse it, though I couldn't tell you which songs are recent and which are old... http://www.flix.co.il/tapuz/Music/
