Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] toonhead_npl's mention of a related project on his blog, I finally whipped together a program to print out .puz files the way I want.

Sometimes it's nice to solve on paper, but AcrossLite maximizes the grid size, which means that the squares change size from one day to the next. Here is a Windows program (NOT Windows Mobile) that lets you pick a directory containing one or more .puz files, select all the ones you want to print at once, and then it prints them two to a page at a constant size. details )

Note to [livejournal.com profile] lucretia_borgia -- if you have mono installed on your Linux box, this may be an answer to your question "How can I print AcrossLite puzzles in Linux?"

For our company post-holiday-season party, six of us have formed a sextet to perform two a cappella pieces: Sixteen Tons and a barbershop arrangement of Give My Regards to Broadway. We are calling ourselves the Bitstream Half-Tones but we're hoping to come up with some sort of visual flourish. Since this is an ad hoc group and since we want to be able to hang out at the party for the remainder of the time, we don't want to invest in a full uniform and we want something that can be donned for the five minutes we perform and then not worried about the rest of the day.

We've considered red carnations (not appropriate for Sixteen Tons and not something that can be ignored until we're ready to go on), caps or hats (not everyone has a hat of the same style), bowties (not everyone has, and most of the ones we do have are tux-style black). Any other ideas?
