First day of school
Sep. 3rd, 2008 10:39 amAlissa started kindergarten today, and Tani started second grade. The whole way to school, the two of them sat in the back seat chanting, "School! School! School! Yay!" --- so I'm glad they were excited, but after five minutes of that I was going a little crazy. :-)
They've reorganized the kindergarten classroom since Tani's time there, which is good because it will keep me from being complacent the second time around. I read the "morning board" with Alissa, and helped her find her cubby and seat. The seat next to hers has been assigned to her good friend Daniel from her nursery school and our synagogue, so she's quite happy about that.
After 20 minutes or so Heather and I switched rooms and I got to meet Tani's teachers, find out where his seat and cubby are, and join his class for morning tefillot (prayers). I was quite pleased to see that he remembered where to find each prayer in the siddur (I'll admit that we pretty much let him get away with not using it all summer). The kids went around the room saying one thing they did over the summer; Tani's was "I learned to swim!"
Then it was time for everyone to gather in the library for some songs, a few more introductions and brief speeches, and then the kids went back with their teachers to their classrooms while the parents hugged, dried our eyes, and left.
