I probably should have had the wikipedia link point to this page that explains the mitzvah of counting the Omer, a period of seven weeks that begins on the second day of Passover and ends on the eve of the holiday of Shavu'ot ("Weeks"). Today is the 49th and final day of the Omer.

ok, I read this. I sorta understand what a coworker of mine was telling her boss yesterday about "Shavuot". 10 tries and he still couldn't pronounce it. Neither can I.

This also reminds me to probably write in my blog about my mom's possible conversion to Judaism in the near future. I also read back in your journal to a couple of weeks ago where you were discussing the foundation of your beliefs, and methinks I should forward some of that info to her.

My mom is disenfranchised with Lutheranism, specifically the church where she believes a lot of the people there just don't care about one another. She was also angry at God about the passing of my Dad last year. She went to social gatherings at a temple in Poughkeepsie and felt welcome. Also, recent research by a relative has uncovered evidence that my great-grandfathers siblings were Holocaust victims (in Czechoslovakia), and probably Jewish themselves.

So my mom has noble reasons for looking to convert, but I am not sure she has the discipline to really learn Hebrew or the capacity to really get up to speed, although she is doing some research. At least she is making decisoons on what she feels is best for her, and I stand behind her 100% (even if I remain goy :) ).
