I just got my first prescription for bifocals.

(I'm not upset, or morbid, or freaked. I'm more amused than anything else. But it's a life milestone, and I should record the date for posterity. In the immortal (!) words of Michael Flanders and Donald Swann, "Hello, posterity!")

I have trouble considering bifocals a sign of age, since I've worn them since I was 17...

I've had mine since I was 5. So yeah, totally not an age association for me either.

I'm 50 and still in denial about needing them, but I think I will have to bite the bullet as it's a pain to have to take my glasses off to read maps.

Oh, no! My doctor said eyes are supposed to shift back in prescription number considerably, then your arms are supposed to shrink, and only THEN do you reach for the "bifokes"!
