Amazing, isn't it, that twenty-one years ago we said "Hey, if we sign the bylaws on Feb. 29 then in twenty-one years our successors can do 'Pirates' as the fall show" --- and they remembered. This may be the longest-planned theatrical performance ever!

21 years ago, when we founded the MIT G&S Players, we intentionally did it on Feb. 29 as an in-joke referencing Frederick in The Pirates of Penzance. Since the plot of Pirates hinges on the confusion surrounding when, exactly, Frederick's 21st birthday will occur, we thought it would be amusing if the group scheduled Pirates as the Fall 2008 show, which is the one closest to the actual 21st anniversary of the founding of the group.

And this weekend, Pirates went up, right on schedule, twenty-one years later.
