So a little more detail about my party.

Puzzles: In addition to my set, there was a delightful cryptic from Ucaoimhu and a fun word search from [livejournal.com profile] oma_greene.

Spoken word: Andrea K delivered a story, "When Crow Brought Down the Sun," based on a Native American folk tale. The kids were enthralled. And I made a siyyum on Masechet Megillah --- that is, I completed the study of that tractate from the Talmud. (In order to meet this deadline I had to stop rewriting what I'd learned for the Dafcast; now I need to double back and update that website.)

Music: The Reiss-Harris family sang two Tom Lehrer parodies. [livejournal.com profile] chanaleh sang the Hairy Ape song from Princess Ida (alas, no one followed up with Bride's Lament :-). La Do La Li/Ti sang two songs, including her version of the Wordplay song. Ruth and Arlene B played a Dvořák sinfonia for violin and piano. All were delightful.

Images: The slideshow that my parents and I put together drew a lot of attention. Many of you have seen some of those photos on Facebook, but the entire production was about 300 photos with dates and captions on a loop, 2 seconds per picture. I may turn that into a YouTube video.

Food was consumed throughout the afternoon and evening. I got a chance to actually chat with just about everyone who came. The weather was great and so the kids got to play in the backyard. I had a wonderful time, and I think the guests did, too.

The kids outside made a fairy village out of twigs, leaves, and moss. It is awesome.

That really was a lovely cryptic -- thanks for sharing it with those of us who couldn't be there!

I'm sorry I missed this part, but isn't "Tom Lehrer parodies" either redundant or oxymoronic? Or both?
