Power supply has been replaced. How do people who aren't comfortable taking pliers and screwdrivers to the insides of their computer deal with problems like this?

The same way we deal with our cars.

Geek Squad, Geeks On Call, Best Buy's service dep't, Circuit City's service dep't, Micro Center's service dep't, the manufacturer's service dep't, etc.

If you can't do it yourself, you pay (often overpay) for a professional to do it.

... or you discover that it costs more to have the system/item repaired than it does to replace it entirely ....

If it's only screwdrivers, I have Dani do it because I don't see well enough to do small fiddly parts. If it involves pliers, solder, or the like, I pay someone (just like if it were a wiring problem or a furnace problem or a non-trivial car problem or...).
