Overall, very enjoyable. I like the characterizations. I like the way they're retelling it in contemporary London.

I loved the line "I'm not a psychopath; I'm a high-functioning sociopath. Do your research."

I love the camerawork on the "Inside Sherlock's Brain" moments.

I wish they wouldn't use the same text effect for texts and for the "Inside Sherlock's Brain" moments. What happens if Sherlock thinks about a text? Malkovitch Malkovitch Malkovitch? Seriously, I'd like either effect, but they can't use them both on the same show without more visual distinction.

I don't mind the re-setting of it and I don't mind the mashups of Doyle's stories. The one thing that really ticked me off though was that the murderer, in the end, had no real motive. Doyle's murderers, of course, were always either darkest blackguards or out for revenge; the "two pills" gimmick was someone who was relying on the Hand of Providence to help him avenge the rape and murder of his wife, after all.

But they can't possibly pull that stunt two weeks running, so next Sunday night, we'll be back in front of the TV.

And I'm glad Masterpiece Mystery is continuing the hidden messages in the closing credits. It's a fun game.

Hidden messages in the closing credits? Sheesh, I've got to get a bigger-screen tv. Or better glasses.
Or just clean my existing glasses. And screen.

We know about this because we've been watching Inspector Lewis as well.

We noticed this earlier in the season. When thew credits get on to the production crew, some of the letters are red. Last night, if you read off the red letters as they zoomed by, it spelled RACHEL.

I'd forgotten about the US broadcast. Thanks for the reminder; I've set up the rebroadcast to record. I'm on the fence; a lot of my flist loves the characters, but ... let's just say the second episode is reportedly problematic. But if you found the first episode enjoyable, that's makes me think it's definitely worth checking out.
