Siddur page options

So I've narrowed it down to two options at this point. Those who care about my siddur project and the page layouts, do you prefer Option 1 or Option 2?

I prefer the smaller chunk sizes of option 2, because it makes it easier to move between the Hebrew and the music. Moving between transliteration and Hebrew carries some cognitive load for me, so if I'm going along in the Hebrew and just need a reminder of the nusach, scanning the translit for the right place will slow me down. With a line or two at a time it's easier to jump in and out.

Others' MMV, of course.

(I'm really looking forward to holding the completed siddur in my hands! This is such a neat project!)

I like Option 1 with the larger blocks, but I am not going to be using it for chazzanut, so those davening from the amud might have other thoughts.

Option 2 seems easier to read to me, but I'm not sure why.

The interlinear version (2) makes more sense, but the other version is a visually better design.

Option 1 is preferable

I think Option 1 is much clearer. Option 2 makes me hesitate as I try to figure out the layout.

It's close.

My first thought was option 1 -- fewer context switches, and I figure that if I am having to read all the music to get the whole thing (as indeed I would be, at least for now), I am not going to be reading the Hebrew anyway -- too much eye movement.

On further thought though, the context switch breaks would be pauses in delivery anyway, and perhaps the shift to minor at v-hayah on Shabbat may oddly be a bit easier with the break in the staff from option 2.

Visually, I think option 1 looks better. From a distance, the "chol including Hoshannah Rabbah" really breaks the symmetry in option 2. If there were an option 2 variant where the left staff was a full half-width, it would be a closer call on that front.

BTW, does this mean you're dumping the guide for the late arriver? ;-)

No, the guide for the late arriver is being combined with all other "How to compensate for errors" on a separate page. Showing up late is an error, just like omitting "Zochreinu l'chayyim" is. :-)
