You win some, you lose some

rhuAs you may have noticed, I'm trying to wrap up a bunch of my long-standing projects, such as the siddur and my setting of Kabbalat Shabbat, the Psalms and other texts that introduce the Friday night service. [Unlike my setting of Pesukei d'Zimrah, the much larger set of Psalms and texts that introduce the Saturday morning service, which requires a full chorus and orchestra and a bunch of soloists, and which is therefore unlikely to ever be performed, my setting of Kabbalat Shabbat requires only six voices SSATBB a cappella. I'm hoping to get it done in the next few weeks and have it polished before Shabbat Shirah, the Sabbath of Song, which is 30 January 2010.]
So anyway: Last week I had the germ of an idea for the setting of Psalm 92, and over the weekend I nurtured it into a full movement. Last night I finished harmonizing and voicing it, and went to copy the lyrics from my previous setting of the same text for Pesukei d'Zimrah ---
--- and I discovered to my horror and embarrassment that when I set it eight years ago, I fell into a printer's devilry error, where I elided two verses by mistaking the word "Adonay" in v. 14 for "Adonay" in v. 16. And because I've only ever heard it played by computer, not sung, I've never caught the error until now. And it's not going to be simple to splice the missing words back in without seriously damaging the structure of that movement. So I'm rather frustrated and upset about that.
But, on the other hand, I really like the new setting. It's a shade under 2 minutes and here's an MP3 of the computer playing it on the piano. [This recording is missing the incipit Mizmor shir l'yom ha-Shabbat, if you're going to listen to it with the text in front of you. Just be sure the text you use has all the verses.]
