Happy 40th, Usdan!

This week the Usdan Center for the Creative and Performing Arts is celebrating their fortieth anniversary. I was a Usdanite for three summers in the 1980's; it was one of the formative experiences of my life.

It would not surprise me to find out that there's at least one of you who read this blog who also passed through Usdan. So: Anyone else out there?

I went to Usdan for a couple of summers. I was an OK French horn player during junior high, and I played in Usdan's band. The thing I remember most was a water-glass player coming to perform; the concert was recorded for Charles Kuralt's On the Road segment. I saw the journalist from way back in the audience.

I must admit I had more fun at C.W. Post's gifted kids program. Probably because I didn't have to swim.
