That's thinkin' outside the box, kiddo!
Oct. 10th, 2007 11:16 amThis morning, when I brought Tani to school, the first activity was a dry-erase card with a picture at the top (Tani's card was a beach ball) and a bunch of lines of the form _all. The idea is to write the missing sounds at the start of the first line, and then come up with as many rhyming words as you can.
For one word, Tani wrote 'S' in the blank, and then added a 'T' after the word, where there was no blank. His teacher asked what that was and he said "Salt. It rhymes in the middle." She and I looked at each other, smiled, and shrugged.
A few lines later, Tani put a check mark in the margin and skipped that row. "Tani," said the teacher, "you missed a line." "No I didn't, the word 'all' rhymes with the others. The check mark shows that this line is done."
I can't wait until he encounters his first rebus crossword. :-)
