Kids say the darndest things

This morning Alissa wakes up and starts shouting for me. "Abba! Abba!" I come running down the hall to her room. "What is it, sweetie?" I ask. She smiles and says "Abba, I have to know: Why was there a revolutionary war?"

Later, Tani read the morning board at school. The first task was "Write one word describing MLK." Other kids were writing "brave," "nice," "smart." My son? "Dead."

Well, you have to admit, it's incontovertial. He is dead. And, sadly, a lot of the time that's what he's remembered for.

While that's very funny, it's also very perceptive. His assassination wasn't more important than his life's work, but it played an important part in gaining awareness of and attention for it.

The people who lived here were unhappy with the laws that the king of England had passed, and they decided to form their own country. The king sent soldiers to prevent them from seceding, and there was a fight. In the end, the king's soldiers lost, and the king agreed to let the colonists stop being part of England and start being their own country. And now the United States and England are very good friends.
