Back from Hunt. (Yes, Michael, and Arisia too, but mostly Hunt.)

Starting to catch up. It will take a while.

Nutshell review of Palindrome's hunt: 'Nuff fun? Yay!

Congratulations to the Evil Midnight Bombers What Bomb at Midnight. Thanks to Palindrome for constructing a fun Hunt. Thanks to Immoral, Illegal, and Fattening for inviting me to solve on the team this year.

I had a great time, largely because I felt that I held my own on the team. I solved one puzzle mostly myself, was part of several successful solving pairs, and made (I think) useful contributions towards a fair number of puzzles. Sure, I also made my share of mistakes, and there were some puzzles that still frustrate me, but there were plenty of "Aha!" moments and that felt good.

Detailed writeup of the weekend will, I hope, follow.

Good:

Some beautiful puzzles. Enough variety in difficulty that there was usually something that we could make progress on.

Delightful teammates.

Didn't embarrass myself -- got to play with the big kids and held my own. Made a real contribution to the team.

Don't have to write next year's Hunt. :-)

Got to see and hang out with a bunch of NPL folks.

Disappointments:

Didn't get to see enough NPL folks, nor hang out with the ones I did see for long enough.

Only came in contact with about ten percent of the puzzles that were out there. You were right, [livejournal.com profile] hathor, that puzzle you mentioned was right up my alley. Pity I didn't see it until after the Hunt was over. Never saw "Subservient Chicken" (and then embarrassed myself by asking [livejournal.com profile] qaqaq at the wrapup which had been his favorite puzzle).

There were too many puzzles that we missed solving by inches, which was frustrating.
