So now that we have the summer games in (n%4==0) and winter games in (n%4==2), I was thinking it's time to bring back some of the events from the ancient Greek Olympics.

I propose that in (n%4==3) years we have the Vernal Games, featuring poetry recitation, dance, drama, and music. Maybe architecture, although I don't know how that'd work.

What would we have for the (n%4==1) Games in the autumn? Drinking contests?

How would architecture work? With a brand new, arcane scoring system every time and with a controversial French judge.

They'd have to do AutoCAD renderings in VR.

In the nude. Let's get some real verisimilitude.

Dude! You'd get ink, eraser rubbings, contact cement, and balsa wood bits all over.

Good for ratings.
Bad for athletic-wear endorsements.

I once suggested merging the Olympics with a film and music festival, to achieve a traditional Olympic combined athletic/artistic showcase while using the arts most commonly attended in the modern age. They didn't remain static in ancient times either -- the plays were a relatively late invention.

There actually is a cultural show that accompanies the Olympics; I went to the art exhibition in '96, and it was really impressive. Not the same thing, really, but at least it's kind of there.

Is that an official IOC thing or was is something the Atlanta organizers put together?

I think it's an official IOC thing. They can get a lot of sponsorship for things like musical performances. At the Athens Olympics, there was an art show and a music stage at the main stadium. There was information about these in the official brochure, along with schedules for the sporting events and transportation information.

And beach sand-castle building, which is the same except they wear scanty bikinis and there's rock music blasting whenever the action seems to pause?
