I have posted the third dafcast.net script. All three can now be browsed (albeit with a very primitive UI). If you're one of the people who had indicated an interest in helping record, now would be a good time to look them over and think about which role(s) you'd want to play.

If you haven't yet signed up, you didn't get the first "Progress Report" email. So here it is. (And please take this chance to sign up so I can stop boring everyone else :-)

Dear Dafcast member,

We're off to a great start! Several of you have reserved specific dapim to translate, and reading your comments on the registration forms has been very encouraging to me.

What will really capture people's attention is for us to have a few examples of where this is going. To that end, I've prepared scripts for three dapim that are representative of very different styles. Gittin 56 is entirely aggadic, dealing with the destruction of Jerusalem. Kiddushin 2 is a wide-ranging discussion centered on the specific choices of the first four words of the mishna. And Kiddushin 34 is a challenge-and-response daf on one specific halachic subject.

The three scripts are posted at http://dafcast.net/script.cgi These pages are not as visually polished as the main site; the script management database is still very much a work in progress. But if you're interested in any of the "roles" in these scripts, please let me know. I expect that some of the recordings will be done by individuals recording with whatever reasonable-quality equipment is at hand, while in some cases we'll have to get a bunch of people together to record at a central location here in the Boston MA area.

I'd love to get the raw audio material recorded by the middle of next week, so I can edit and assemble the podcasts over the Labor Day weekend and be ready to do our second round of publicity once schools are getting underway and with plenty of time before the Yamim Noraim.

As always, I look forward to your feedback, and I am very excited about this chance to demonstrate this project's potential to the world.

Thanks,
Andrew Greene

I finally (!) had time to sit down and read the scripts for the three you've done. These are great! How can I help write future ones?

Thanks for the positive feedback.

I'll let you know when the next round of translations is up for adaptation.
