There's an ad on the bottom of page 1 of today's Times.

And not one of those heartwarming ads they used to run: "BE MINE FOREVER. Darling, will you marry me? - ADVT" "HAPPY 60th BIRTHDAY Grampa John. Love, Phil, Mary, Sue, and Bob. - ADVT" or the weekly fave: "JEWISH WOMEN/GIRLS: LIGHT Shabbos candles. In NYC, 4:53. In honor of Estelle Goldstein OBM. - ADVT"

No, this is a somewhat ugly and uninspired ad for a bunch of TV shows.

I'm too worried about the death of professional journalism and investigative reporting to worry about the placement of ads on page 1. It's not like the Times has ever been, Ms.-style, able to claim freedom from advertiser-induced bias.

Although this begs the question of whether the New York Times still has anything resembling investigative journalism.
