Happy Independence Day

A happy Independence Day is...

• Reciting the Declaration of Indepenence. I believe in the power of liturgy, and the Declaration was meant to be orated. It moves me to tears every year. "Our lives, our fortunes, and our sacred honor," indeed.
• Watching America Rock from the Schoolhouse Rock DVD with my kids. "No more kings, no more kings...."
• Watching Discovery launch with my kids.

Alas, every year I read the DoI (silently) and am further and further amazed by the rhetorical and intellectual poverty of current political discourse.
