Machzor for a beginning reader
Sep. 15th, 2009 11:48 amAlissa has started reading. Very simple books, but still: yay!
And it means that when she comes to synagogue this weekend, during the musaf amidah when everyone is reading silently for fifteen minutes, we have a chance for her to not be bored. She's very motivated, especially about tefillot, and so I thought that it would be a worthwhile exercise to try to write a simple translation of the Musaf Amidah for Rosh Ha-shanah that adopts the repetitive style and simple vocabulary of a children's book, but that captures the essence of each of the berachot.
So, here it is. Comments and suggestions for improvements are welcome.

Date: 2009-09-16 01:19 am (UTC)If she's still learning to read Hebrew, might you want to bump up the size a bit? The Hebrew is small compared to the English and there's room. Maybe it was just me, but coming from a language where all the letters were the same size, it took me a while to really settle into reading the itty bitty Hebrew vowels. Dunno if that would apply to her.
(Oseh hashalom?)
