So I haven't had much luck so far finding an existing group, but I have had a suprising number of people expressing interest. Therefore, I'm going to explore organizing a group.

Before I lj-cut, let me emphasize that the goal is to sing for the love of singing and so if you're at all curious or interested, please reply to this message and let's brainstorm!

Sine qua non

  • Cannot rehearse on Shabbat. Shabbat performances highly restricted.

Desiderata

  • Mixed voices, one or two on a part.
  • Some repertoire accompanied, some a cappella. Not all singers necessarily sing all songs.
  • Repertoire from various genres, as long as it's quality stuff.
  • Group meets with a voice teacher/coach regularly but not necessarily at every rehearsal.
  • Singers would be expected to learn the music outside of rehearsal so that rehearsal focuses on the group sound (and doesn't get draggy).
  • Rehearsals one evening each week.

Other notes

  • My goals are to have fun, broaden my experience, sing with some new people, and become a better singer. A formal performance is not important to me right now; informal performances are fine: I'd be happy strolling down the Esplanade on a summer's evening, singing for the fun of it. On the other hand, if the others in the group really want to seek out paying gigs, I won't object.

So.... What might attract you to this group? What have I said that turns you off? What have I forgotten to think about or to explain?
