Fantasy League Cabinet posts
Jan. 7th, 2008 08:41 pmAn exercise inspired by the recent NYT Magazine interview with Mike Huckabee:
If you (yes, you) were elected President of the United States, and had to populate your cabinet with the Democratic and Republican candidates, where would you put them? (Since we're playing pretend anyway, let's assume that you're only interested in where they can do the most good -- or least harm -- and not in whether someone of their stature would accept the "lesser" cabinet positions.)
State: Bill Richardson
Treasury: Chris Dodd
Defense: John McCain
Justice: Barack Obama
Interior: Mike Huckabee
Agriculture: Tommy Thompson
Commerce: Joe Biden
Labor: John Edwards
Health and Human Services: Hillary Clinton
Housing and Urban Development: Rudy Giulliani
Transportation: Dennis Kucinich
Energy: ?
Education: ?
Veterans Affairs: Fred Thompson
Homeland Security: ?
I don't trust Mitt Romney anywhere. Don't quite trust Ron Paul either. Wouldn't know Duncan Hunter if he came up to me at a campaign rally and introduced himself.
Not thrilled about putting Huckabee at Interior, but that's probably a safe place to stash him. Rudy has experience running a city, so I placed him at HUD --- he ain't going near Homeland Security as long as I'm president!
Kucinich is idealistic enough that he might be able to give this country a reasonable rail infrastructure.
To keep from being boring, I disqualified Tommy Thompson from HHS and Bill Richardson from Energy. Been there, done that. Besides, I think Richardson would make an impressive Secretary of State.
Clinton is hard for me to place. I actually would love to keep her in the Senate! Or maybe Chief of Staff....
Anyone else wanna play?
