...but I think NBC changed the chord on the second downbeat of the old Olympics fanfare (not the John Williams one) from I to vi and this makes me very happy. (That is, it's now a vi chord and I remember it always being a I chord, which bothered me.)

Speculation alert -- I don't have any definite facts to back this up, I am making a guess based on a few clues.

I assume you are referring to the old Olympic Theme, AKA "Bugler's Dream", originally written by Leo Arnaud (see e.g. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Olympic_mascot#Fanfare_and_Theme). The recent renditions I've found online of this are either attributed to "Arnaud/Williams" or even just "Williams!" (see e.g. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0000029R1/103-9260019-0823857?v=glance&n=5174) . I suspect that when NBC brought the tune back, they used a Williams arrangment, and perhaps he changed the harmony. (I don't remember the old version well enough, and haven't looked deeply enough to try to find one on the web to compare -- Amazon.com probably has it).

First, thanks for identifying the title and composer.

Second, thanks for validating my memory: if you click on the Amazon "Listen!" link for track 3 on the item you linked to above, it's definitely the way I remember it: the second bar of the brass is a repetition of the I chord (with the inner voices swapped, but still a root-position I chord). And the way NBC has been playing it the past few weeks, it's a vi chord. (And on the reprise there's a lovely walking bass line.)
