The Executive Summary

Please help me choose whether to enter a music competition, and which pieces to submit.

The Explanation

Several friends have directed my attention to Shalshelet: The Foundation for New Jewish Liturgical Music and their upcoming competition. I am seriously considering entering, but I need to choose no more than three movements to submit.

Will you please help me decide whether to enter, and how many/which pieces to send in?

Even if you aren't Jewish or don't know these sections of the liturgy, I'd appreciate your feedback on which of these musical settings are fun to listen to and would be fun to sing.

I'm too close to my own work to necessarily choose the candidates with the greatest chance of success. I love all my "children", even as I know that some of them work only because of the larger context in which they fit.

So I've selected the movements from my settings of Pesukei d'Zimrah and Kabbalat Shabbat that I think might make good candidates, and I'd appreciate help from my friends in winnowing that list down.

I'm not asking you to listen to all of these, although if you want to, thanks! (And if you decide that want to listen to the movements that I haven't chosen for this list, thanks again!)

What I am asking is that you listen to however many you feel like, and after you've listened to each piece please give me your feedback on that particular piece at this form. (This way you're not making any more up-front commitment than to listen to one piece at a time.) I have the option of submitting only a score or also submitting an MP3; one question I have is whether the computer-generated MP3s are an asset or a liability, so please give me your opinion on that as well.

Thanks!

Oh wow, I was expecting a single form with checkboxes :-}

I guess this way you get more useful individual feedback on the pieces, as well as letting people react in a modular fashion. And, much as I would love to listen to all of these and THEN make a considered recommendation, I can see how piecemeal will be the way to go.

Yes, I want to make it as easy as possible for people to give feedback as they go. I'll update the post text to make that more clear, because I don't want to scare people off!
