I've succumbed to peer pressure and joined Facebook. I think this url will take you to my profile page if you want to "befriend" me there.

I've succumbed to my data-management urges and signed up for LibraryThing. I have not yet started entering my books in earnest, so this is just a start....

Apparently you have to join Facebook to see the page. Oh well.

And listing all your books is a cool idea, but I shudder to think how long that would take... I think we've gained another 20 or 30 books so far this month, for the awards S. coordinates.

Yeah. I listed it because I know that a lot of people who read my blog already have Facebook accounts and it seemed like the most efficient way to reëstablish my LJ network over there.

It will be a long process, no doubt. The CueCat makes it much faster, though. And it would probably also be pretty efficient to work in pairs, with one person with a phone in intercom mode upstairs, reading off ISBNs, while someone else is at the computer keyboarding them.

The books are everywhere (bwah ha ha), but working in a team sounds like the way to go.

What a coincidence. I also just joined facebook last week. I am admittedly impressed -- I've already managed to get back in touch with a couple of people whom I haven't been in contact with for probably 15 years!

In many ways it is similar to LJ, but it emphasizes using real names, so they correspondingly have a stricter access mechanism (as vettecat alludes to), but it also makes it easier to track down people whom you know.

Granted, LinkedIn is similar, and a little more "professionally" oriented, so in theory it should be able to do the same things. (And I did reconnect with a couple of people on LinkedIn, too).
